Update: I left Lincoln to work for CIA and then into Soviet/Russia research in private industry. For the past 20ish years I've been teaching and tutoring math classes at several community colleges, high schools, and middle schools. I've lived in the DC area since 1974 with the exception of two years in California and one year in Maine. I have been married for 20 years, and have three children, Lauren (speech pathologist teaching senior stroke victims how to talk), Scott (highly decorated Army medic with three tours of Iraq/Afghanistan), and Mary (worship dance instructor who can not walk across a room sans pas de chat). All three are bright and very good looking. In addition, I have four equally bright and good looking grandchildren, by coincidence all in North Carolina. Some things don't change. I still watch the Nebraska football games, still do long-distance bicycling, and Ron Tanner is still my best friend (for which I am very thankful).
I left Lincoln in 1974 to take a position with the CIA outside Washington DC as an economist, doing modeling of the Soviet Union. The model was distributed to SAC, Defense Intelligence, and portions of CIA for use in targeting missiles on key sectors of the USSR. After a lengthy career with the US Government, I left to head the math departments of two private Christian schools. One of the schools was local, but the other was in ME, only 20 miles from Bar Harbor--one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. I spent two years at Joe Gibb's home for troubled youth, living with my wife, youngest daughter, dog, and 34 teenaged boys who had modest difficulties with the law. That has probably been the most rewarding employment I've ever had. There I learned that boys who are in trouble are not necessarily troublemakers. Most of the time they are decent children who have made a mistake and have accepted the consequences of their behavior. I am the father of three healthy children, Lauren (a speech pathologist focusing on elderly stroke victims and a wonderful mom), Scott (Army medic and 3-time veteran of the war in Iraq), and Mary (home schooled and scored 100% on the state-administered end of the year testing in math and a very high score in language arts). I could not be more proud of my children. I could not love them any more than I already do. I am a past president of Virginia Special Olympics and was selected as the volunteer of the year for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. |
