I am smiling as I write this. My brother Dale pointed me toward the Reunion Website, where I totally enjoyed the pictures and memories. And I am so sorry I missed the fun! David Landis was the first face I recognized right off the bat. Because of our names, Landis/Petty--and the alphabetical seating charts--we often sat across from each other in class. How often Dave's head was thrown back in laughter EXACTLY like his reunion photo.

My life work was so much fun! Sometimes I'd get home, and my kids would say, "And they PAY you to do this?"  For 25 years I was a self-employed education consultant, teaching science through the arts. I absolutely loved working with teachers and kids across the U.S. and in some foreign countries.  I took Ben and Elizabeth with me when I went to REALLY interesting places (like Russia). While I was working in Alaska I learned to fly airplanes.  My book, --Waterdrum Science--is still on Amazon marketplace.

Currently I'm on disability with a brain-injury from a car accident. I AM slowly recovering. It could have been much worse, and I give thanks that my basic intellect and functioning powers are still intact. Ironically, I had a National Science Foundation grant for college students with disabilities when I was injured. In a really touching role reversal, my students became MY mentors as they helped me learn to live with and push the edges of my own disability. I was able to finish my M.A. degree--but my thesis took 2.5 years instead of five months! It's in Creative Writing with a Psychology Concentration. (So I'm really quite proud of myself.) I've got two new books in the works, a literary fairy tale, and a non-fiction work for people recovering from brain injuries.

I am single (again). I just can't seem to find the kind of lifetime love that Mom and Dad found. Perhaps I "expect too much". Married 65 years, their bodies and minds may be failing, but their love grows every day. Maybe, "Someday My Prince Will Come". (My thesis was on "The Healing Power of Fairy Tales".)

I am happy, and I love my Sweet Little Mountain Home. Arizona is beautiful! The wild flowers and wildlife proliferate around this mountain valley. I have almost an acre of pinion, juniper, and scrub oak here in mile-high Prescott (halfway between Phoenix and the Grand Canyon). I plan to do some organic gardening, and I have a Perma-culture design for sustainability and water conservation.

My kids are doing well. Elizabeth is in construction management in Scottsdale, winning bids for her firm, and moving "up the ladder" literally. Ben is an attorney, using his creativity to find his own niche in the law.  His book --Virtual Law--was recently published by the American Bar Association. He and his wife are returning to practice law in San Francisco, after a year's Sabbatical in Boise to write.

This summer I will become a Grandma for the first time! Ben and Sarah, are expecting a baby girl. I bought her first "little cowgirl" outfit -- three pastel ponies embroidered on pink gingham.

I enjoy company and connection. And I would love to hear from anybody out there who remembers "the tall girl drummer, who wrote for the newspaper, played the guitar, painted wildlife, and loved horses."

Thanks for this great website!

(If some of this seems a bit incoherent just chalk it up to the TBI "Black Hole" Thanks!) Carolyn Petty
